When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!  My youngest niece was having fun drawing faces on lemons and the happy faces seemed like a good way to ring in the New Year.  Happy New Year to all!!!

These rocks have probably been around for a Millennium or more.  It seems like that long since this challenge started at the beginning of 2009.  I’m sure I’ve taken at least a thousand pictures in my quest to come up with 365 shots worth posting.  It’s been a fun journey and I’m looking forward to a new project in 2010 to take my photography skills to a new level.

We had 27″ of snow here in the recent blizzard (yes, it qualified as a blizzard due to high, sustained winds).  I missed it all – we got out of Dodge and had flown off to visit family in Arizona for Christmas.  By the time we returned home the 45 – 50 degree weather and rains had done away with all but the few piles created by snowplows.  So my only opportunity so far this year for enjoying snow has been to look back on my photos from earlier this year!  This is one I’m rather fond of.

My niece is obessed with catching a rabbit in the trap she made.  She worked out all the details and told Grandma and Grandpa what she needed.  A box, a stick to prop it up, carrots for bait, and a sting that she threaded through the screen door, to pull the stick out when a rabbit went for the bait.   When I asked her what the towel was for she said that is so when the box drops she can pick up the towel against the bottom of the box to keep the rabbit inside when she picks it up.  She’s been at this for about a year now – setting up the trap every time she comes for a sleep-over.  Her uncle even helped her rig it up with a hanging carrot that would trip the stick when the rabbit went for it, but still no rabbits caught in the trap.

Both of my nieces love to paint, draw, and write notes, letters and lists.  I managed to distract my oldest niece long enough to get a quick smile before she returned to the task at hand.

Yeah, its full of distracting elements like the remote on the sofa, and it’s not tack sharp, but this quick capture of my husband and niece enjoying some special time on Christmas Day gives me a warm feeling when I see it.  They were settled in to watch A Christmas Story.  She glanced over just as I was sneaking this shot.
